| Bad checks mean bad news for Montgomery man |

Donald Gerald Schmitt, age 37 of Montgomery faces a felony charge of issuance of a dishonored check after an investigation by the Le Center Police Department last month.
According to a complaint filed at the Le Sueur County courthouse, the department was notified by the Hardware Hank store of four checks which were written to the business on Oct. 16 and 17.
The checks were written from closed bank accounts.
During the investigation, police learned the checks were written by Schmitt. The signatures on the checks matched the signature on file with Driver and Vehicle Services of the Department of Public Safety.
It was later discovered another check from Schmitt was written to the Alco Store in Le Sueur on Sept. 20. The total value of the five checks is $1,193.09 which constitutes a felony charge.
Schmitt is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 9. If found guilty he faces as much as five years in jail and/or a $10,000 fine.
• Jenna Lynne Weber, age 31 of New Market, has been charged with fifth degree assault stemming from an incident at a party in Elysian.
The filed complaint states on Oct. 29 the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by telephone of an assault which occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. Weber allegedly pulled the caller’s hair and later struck her in the face with a closed fist. Weber also allegedly threw a glass of beer at the caller.
A sheriff’s deputy spoke with Weber who denied the hair pulling and throwing the beer. Weber admitted she slapped the complainant once in the face in retaliation for being pushed.
Weber is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18. She faces as much as 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
• On Oct. 31 at approximately 1:05 p.m. the Le Sueur Police Department was notified by an individual he had just been assaulted by his estranged wife, Leidy D. Schleret, age 24 of Le Sueur. The officer observed the man had scratches on each side of his face.
The complainant told police he had gone to Schleret’s residence to drop off their son. Schleret was upset about the man’s new girlfriend. When the man attempted to leave the residence, Schleret allegedly blocked the door and scratched the man in the face. He added she also punched him in the head before he escaped.
While speaking with police Schleret admitted the confrontation and being upset about the girlfriend. She said she attempted to discuss the matter with her husband, but he repeatedly pushed her away.
Schleret admitted getting mad and scratching her husband, but denied striking him with a fist. She claimed her actions were in self defense.
Schleret has been charged with fifth degree assault and disorderly conduct. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 9. |
