Not only was a break in the sweltering heat a good omen for the Le Sueur-Henderson cross country team, but times turned in by the runners bodes well for the Giants’ season. On Sept. 2 the boys and girls teams took part in the Loyola Invitational at Land of Memories Park in Mankato. The boys missed first place by four points and the girls finished fourth.

The Henderson Octopus Bar men’s senior baseball team scored victories in its first ever games last weekend, beating New Hope 15-0 on Saturday in Shakopee and Urbank 10-3 on Sunday in Veseli in the Over-35 Men’s Amatuer State Baseball Tournament.

The Saturday afternoon entertainment at the Le Sueur County Fair was the traditional pick-up and tractor pull. In the 1250-pound hobby class Nolan Weber took first pulling 327 feet 10.5 inches followed by Al Engleman pulling 310 feet 3 inches. Taking third was Matt Conway pulling 268 feet 1/2 inch.

Runners and walkers couldn’t have asked for a better morning for a 5K Saturday.  The annual Giant’s Valley Run was held at 8 a.m.  Park and rec director Layne Wilbright said there was another record turnout with 241 participants crossing the finish line.

Ouch! Braves knocked out of playoffs by Chanhassen
Le Sueur Braves catcher Nate Olsen was on the receiving end of a Chanhassen pitch at Bruce Frank Field on July 29. Being hit by the pitch wasn’t nearly as stinging as the 6-3 loss suffered by the Braves. The loss took the home team out of contention for the Region 6C playoffs beginning this week.
