Le Sueur man charged with fifth DWI in last 10 years

LE CENTER – A Le Sueur man has recently been charged with his fifth DWI in the last 10 years.

According to a formal complaint filed with district court, on April 6 at approximately 11:05 p.m. a Le Sueur police officer on patrol was following a Chevrolet pickup on Fourth St.

The officer did not recognize the vehicle and ran a registration check on the pickup’s license plates. The report indicated the vehicle’s plates had been impounded due to alcohol. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Fourth and Risedorph St.

The driver of the pickup identified himself as Daniel Dale Sexe, age 33 of Le Sueur. Sexe stated the pickup was a friends and he did not have his driver’s license with him. Records showed Sexe’s license had been cancelled. Sexe admitted knowing this and also admitted he had been drinking.

After failing field sobriety tests, Sexe refused to participate in a preliminary breath test. He was taken to the Le Sueur County Law Enforcement Center. There he submitted to an Intoxilyzer test which showed a blood alcohol reading of .19.

Because of prior offenses, Sexe is being charged with first degree driving while impaired which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in jail and/or a $14,000 fine. He is also charged with driving after cancellation which is punishable by as much as one year in jail and/or a $3,000 fine. Sexe posted $1,000 bail with the condition of electronic alcohol monitoring. His first appearance in court had been scheduled for April 14.

• On April 5 at 12:06 a.m. a Le Sueur County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to State Highway 112 for a report of a vehicle in the ditch.

According to the responding officer’s report, upon arrival he observed a tan-colored passenger car moving backward and forward in the ditch, attempting to drive out. An Illinois driver’s license identified the driver as Lorenzo Cupid Williams, age 40.

The deputy detected an odor of alcohol on Williams’ breath and observed a can of beer inside the car. Williams denied he had been drinking. After failing field sobriety tests Williams performed a preliminary breath test which registered .155.

Williams was transported to the Le Sueur County jail and charged with fourth degree driving while impaired. He was also fined $180 for an open container citation. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 6.

• On April 4 at approximately 1:18 a.m. Le Sueur County sheriff’s deputies observed two vehicles traveling south on County Road 11 near Lake Francis. A 2003 white GMC pickup crossed the center line three times and attempted to pass the other vehicle. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver of the pickup as Ryan Joe Wesley, age 20 of Waterville.

The formal complaint states Wesley admitted he had been drinking and failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .097. Wesley was transported to the Le Sueur County Law Enforcement Center. He is charged with fourth degree driving while impaired, open bottle and underage consumption. A court appearance has been scheduled for April 22.

• Travis Donald Chadbourn, age 27 of Le Sueur has been charged with fifth degree assault after an incident at his home late last month.

According to papers filed with district court, on March 27 a Le Sueur County sheriff’s deputy met with a woman who said she had a fight with her live-in boyfriend, Chadbourn.

She said she and Chadbourn were arguing when Chadbourn became physical. She added she did not want Chadbourn arrested, just removed from their home.

Le Sueur County officials went to Chadbourn’s house, arrested him and transported him to the Le Sueur County jail. He was charged and released with a court appearance scheduled for April 22.

• On Jan. 31 at 10:03 p.m. a Le Sueur County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched for a report of a vehicle in the ditch at the intersection of Hillsdale and First Ave. SE in New Prague. When the deputy arrived the New Prague Police Department and ambulance were already at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Merlin Jim Plonsky, age 63 of Montgomery. Plonsky was transported by ambulance to Queen of Peace Hospital where he was treated and arrested for fourth degree driving while impaired.

Plonsky is scheduled to appear in court on April 29. If found guilty he faces a possible 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

• Richard Carlton Johnson, age 43 of Le Sueur faces gross misdemeanor fraud charge after an incident in Le Center earlier this month. On April 2 the Le Center Police Department received a report from a Le Sueur County Human Services employee who said she met with Johnson at approximately 8:30 that morning. She believed sometime during the meeting Johnson had taken the wallet from her purse.

According to the officer’s report, records showed the woman’s debit card had been used at approximately 9 a.m. at the Le Center municipal liquor store.

Store surveillance video showed a man, later identified as Johnson, bought three cases of beer. Store managers produced a receipt and signed credit card purchase bearing the signed name of the woman.

Johnson was booked on April 3 for financial transaction card fraud and placed on $150 bail. His court appearance was scheduled for April 14. If found guilty Johnson faces up to one year in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.

• On April 1 at approximately 9:49 p.m. a Le Sueur County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a personal injury accident on County Road 15 in Washington Township.

According to papers filed at the Le Sueur County courthouse, upon arrival the deputy observed a man, later identified as Benjamin Clarence Johnson, age 25 of Cleveland, standing north of the accident site. Johnson was bleeding from his nose and face. The deputy detected an odor of alcohol on Johnson’s breath and Johnson admitted he had been drinking. A preliminary breath test resulted in a reading of .233.

Johnson was transported by ambulance to River’s Edge Hospital in St. Peter where he was treated and released. From there Johnson was taken to the Le Sueur County jail. He was charged with third degree driving while impaired and careless driving. Because of a DWI conviction in May 2008, Johnson’s bail was set at $500 with the condition of electronic alcohol monitoring. His initial court appearance is scheduled for May 12.

•Jamie Jacob Kroehler of Le Sueur is charged with felony first and second degree criminal sexual conduct.

Court documents state that in an interview with a Le Sueur County investigator, Kroehler admitted touching a juvenile in an inappropriate and sexual manner. He said the incidents took place over the past two years and in some cases alcohol played a role.

Bail for Kroehler has been set at $5,000. His first court appearance took place on April 14. If found guilty Kroehler could be sentenced to as much as 30 years in jail and/or a $40,000 fine.

To the Kroehler story, if found guilty 30 years is not enough. As adults and parents we are to protect children not molest them. I am so tired of someone using the excuse that alcohol made me do it.
