John E. Gundlach — 1916-2010

John E. Gundlach, age 94, of Le Sueur, died on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the Benedictine Living Center in St. Peter.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 5, at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur with the Rev. Barbara J. Lindgren officiating. Interment was in Mound Cemetery in Le Sueur with Military Honors provided by the Le Sueur Honor Guard.

John was born Jan. 19, 1916, to Edward & Leonore (Geib) Gundlach in Lake Prairie Township, Nicollet County. He served in the United States Army from 1941 until 1945, spending two years in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He married Adeline Sohm on Oct. 21, 1944, in Le Sueur. The couple farmed in Lake Prairie Township and moved to Le Sueur in 1960. In 1964, they purchased a farm in Tyrone Township, Le Sueur County, where he farmed for many years. He was also a bus driver for 20 years. He has been a resident of the Benedictine Living Center in St. Peter for the last 14 months.

John enjoyed playing cards, dancing, cutting firewood, and going to auctions.

John is survived by his wife, Adeline; children: Norman (Sandra) Gundlach of St. Peter, Elaine (William G.) Ruch of Mankato, and Kevin Gundlach of Le Sueur; grandchildren: Eve (Eric) Hessler, Vincent Gundlach; William J. (Michelle) Ruch, Daniel Ruch; great-grandsons: William A. Ruch and Bailey Ruch.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Clifford Gundlach, Alvin Koller, and George Koller; sister, Myrtle Gundlach; and great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Ruch.
